You’ve seen outside banners at events, trade shows, sports venues, retail stores, and other locations where they can attract attention and convey messages to a wide audience. In Calgary, perhaps the most common place to see a banner is on an overpass. The city recognizes the value of a banner located at these high profile locations and has built a program to allow ‘not for profit’ organizations to access this space to share their messages.
Outdoor banners can play a crucial role in marketing, communication, and creating a strong visual presence for businesses, events, and organizations. In my blog today I share a little about what they are made from, how to design them and finally, how to install them.
They are typically made from vinyl, mesh, or fabric materials. Vinyl is a popular choice due to its durability, weather resistance, and ability to display vibrant colors. Mesh banners have tiny holes that allow wind to pass through, making them suitable for windy areas. Fabric banners are lightweight and often used for indoor and temporary outdoor applications.
They come in various sizes and shapes, depending on the specific requirements and available space. They can range from small-sized banners for sidewalk displays to large-format banners that cover the side of a building or fence. When designing a banner, it is important to consider factors like legibility, visibility, and branding. Bold and contrasting colors, large fonts, and clear images are essential for creating impact and ensuring readability from a distance.
Outdoor banners can be installed in different ways, depending on the location and purpose. Grommets (metal or plastic rings) are often placed along the edges of the banner to facilitate hanging with ropes or bungee cords. Banners can also be attached to frames, poles, fences, or mounted on buildings using brackets. Zip ties - especially the industrial strength ones are very effective at holding your banner in place on a fence during high winds.
Banners are durable, highly customizable and very reasonably priced. Outdoor banners can play a crucial role in marketing, communication, and creating a strong visual presence for businesses, events, and organizations.
