The Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy (GTRLC) in Grand Traverse County tapped Image360 Traverse City to create engaging and educational displays that highlight their conservation efforts across Northern Michigan. The goal of the installations was to connect visitors to GTRLC’s mission while showcasing their projects and sustainability initiatives.
Image360 Traverse City installed three main features for the Conservancy, the first involving an impressive use of cork, with a layered map spotlighting GTRLC’s current and completed projects.
“These displays were designed with storytelling and sustainability in mind, combining unique materials, from cork and corrugated Falconboard to white cedar mounted over custom-fabricated aluminum structure and slat board,” says Kohlmann. “Due to the unique materials and unique construction, production and fabrication took plenty of attention to detail and diligence. We’re proud of how these displays reflect GTRLC’s values of education, conservation, and environmental stewardship. When considering material choices, we like to get a better understanding of client needs, expectations, and usage. In this case, since our client’s focus is land conservation, we all agreed it was important to focus on natural, sustainable products. Cork fit the bill perfectly. We have indeed used it for previous projects.”
Rolling L-shaped, four-sided informational displays with magnetized and slat board panels for flexibility and enhanced visitor engagement accompanied the cork map along with a custom, white-ink based decal on a window within the building.
“The project not only enhances visitor interaction but also serves as a testament to GTRLC’s commitment to protecting Northern Michigan’s natural beauty through thoughtful and impactful design,” says Kohlmann. “These displays were developed by collaborating with the client. They knew they wanted “L” shaped mobile kiosks that were able to be easily updated but didn’t know HOW they could be made. Our team stepped in and reverse-engineered the concepts and ideas to bring them to life.”
