Indoor signs

When organizations invest in a new headquarters, every detail of the environment matters—from the architecture to the graphics that help people navigate the space. We recently had the opportunity to support the new Minneapolis building for Mille Lacs Corporate Ventures (MLCV), working alongside the team at PCL Construction to design and produce a complete ADA and interior wayfinding signage system for the facility.
Wayfinding signage is often overlooked during construction, but it plays a critical role in how visitors experience a building. Clear room identification, directional signage and accessible design ensure that everyone—from employees to first-time visitors—can easily move through the space with confidence.
For this project, the design team focused on creating signage that felt modern, clean, and integrated with the building’s architectural aesthetic. Rather than using the traditional method of manufacturing ADA signs with tactile appliqués (separate raised letters applied to the surface) we produced the signs using advanced raised-ink printing technology.
This approach allowed us to print the tactile lettering and braille directly onto the sign face, creating a seamless finish that still fully meets ADA accessibility requirements. The result is a sleek, contemporary look that eliminates the layered feel of traditional appliqué lettering while maintaining the tactile readability required for accessibility.
Beyond aesthetics, this method also offers practical benefits. Raised-ink signage can be produced with extremely crisp detail, consistent textures and precise alignment of braille and lettering. It also allows designers more flexibility with materials, colors and layouts—helping signage blend naturally with the interior design of the building.
Projects like this highlight how signage technology continues to evolve. By combining thoughtful design, ADA compliance and modern production techniques, we can create wayfinding systems that are not only accessible and functional but also contribute to the overall visual experience of the space.
